We Have Never Been Modern

Matěj Chlupáček

It is 1937 and a young pregnant doctor Helena arrives with her husband, the director of the factory, in Svit. They want to build a utopian world in the developing Baťa-type town. However, the discovery of a dead body of a newborn baby shatters her ideas about her dream future. Her innate empathy, which is heightened by pregnancy, will not allow her to settle for a conspicuously quick solution. This gripping detective story is as relevant today as it was just before the outbreak of war.
