The Portrait of Irma Geisslová, Who Died Sad

Kateřina Konrádová

The film maps the afterlife of the rediscovered writer and pioneer of literary decadence, Irma Geisslová (1855–1914). It does so not through well-known facts, but through the intimate experiences of five characters with Geisslová’s work. The film thus becomes a portrait of the encounter of voices, words, and gestures—often quite banal—that inhabit the seemingly empty space left by the deceased author with a living human presence.
