Cinema ClubSummer 2001. Seventeen-year-old Kien, with his bright red hair, returns to his family at the market in Cheb after ten years in Vietnam. Instead of a warm welcome, he is greeted by an estranged father, a worried mother, and a younger brother who gives him no quarter. Between ironing Pokémon onto T-shirts, drilling Czech, and dating by the lake, a secret comes to light that turns life at the market upside down… Told with ease and humor, director Dužan Duong’s film offers an authentic view of the community through the eyes of the first generation of Vietnamese who grew up in the Czech Republic.
