Life can take us into all kinds of critical situations that make us think. We searchfor ways out, both metaphorically and literally, just like the protagonists of the filmsin this year’s selection. An Ape Man searches underground for the Kid he oncelost, his way out is redemption. Desperate Isaac is trapped in a haunted houseand deeply rooted trauma. The only way out is to face his traumatic memory head-on.Teenager Sarah escapes her nightmares only to find herself in the dark world of hersubconscious, and paradoxically, by delving deeper and deeper into it, she searchesfor a way out. Punk band The Ain’t Rights find themselves in a situation wherethe only way out is a bloody confrontation with racist evil. Paul Chartier, a novicepoliceman and idealist, becomes entangled in his own obsession with a caseand the only way out is to sacrifice everything. The temporary residents of a mysteriousvilla in the Italian countryside have come here with the hope of finding a way outof their messed-up lives. But not every way out might be the right one.
