Why Are We Helping Ukraine?

What is the value of freedom? Why are Slovaks helping in Ukraine, and what is the true picture of the war just beyond our borders? Sandra Polovková, director of the civic association Post Bellum, which promotes and protects human rights and democracy through activities inspired by European memory, will lead a discussion on stories full of courage, families divided by war, imprisonment, and emigration. Since the outbreak of Russian aggression against Ukraine, Post Bellum has also organized fundraising campaigns to support Ukraine and has delivered essential aid directly to the front lines. In 2022, Sandra Polovková received a state award of Ukraine—the Order of Merit, 3rd Class—from President Volodymyr Zelensky, recognizing her significant personal contributions to strengthening interstate cooperation and supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
