Do We Need a Civil Society?
Thursday 11. 09. 14:00
Cinematik LoungeIn developed countries, civil society is considered one of the key pillars of the state. In Slovakia, however, civic associations and non-profit organizations have faced many obstacles instead of support for years. Juraj Rizman will lead a discussion on the role of civil society in strengthening democracy, the ways it can contribute to social and political change, and what challenges it faces today. The former director of Greenpeace Slovakia and two-time recipient of the Spokesperson of the Year award has in the past served as the spokesperson for several NGOs and coordinated successful environmental campaigns, such as those against planned uranium mining and for the adoption of legislation on environmental burdens. He currently works as Director of Communications and Public Relations at the civic association Post Bellum.
Discussion, 60 min.
