Broken Voices

The world of teenage singers, prestigious concerts, and tours across the United States—this is the renowned girls’ choir that 13-year-old Karolína longs to join in the early 1990s. During the pivotal season, she must contend with talented competitors, including her older sister Lucie, and earn the respect of the admired choirmaster. However, the delicate balancing act around her creative relationship with an authority figure whose methods Karolína is unable to understand can easily spiral out of control. The director and screenwriter was inspired in particular by the sexual abuse scandal that erupted in the 2000s around the Bambini di Praga choir.
