Lesson Learned

Bálint Szimler

Lesson Learned tells the story of a school year at an average Hungarian elementary school, set in the present day, through the eyes of both a teacher and a student. Juci, a young literature teacher, tries to bring a new, modern approach to the school, while Palkó, a newcomer who has just moved from Berlin, struggles with the rigid and uncompromising education system. The conflict between conservative and liberal pedagogy reflects broader social tensions in Hungary. Despite offering an uncompromising view of education in contemporary Hungary, the film maintains a playful and humorous tone.
