A discussion with the directors about film as material for historical research, film as an archive, and film as memory. The discussants will focus on subtopics such as the creation of film memory, storytelling with images, subject versus object in relation to memory, perception of the function of (auteur) film as an art form, and the position of filmmaker versus historian, or filmmaker versus reporter, but also how generational affiliation affects the perspective of a topic, and why it is important to look at the past through the lens of the present.
