Fans of cinematic horror, meticulous character psychology and interpretive puzzles should take heed. The independent horror film by British author Alex Garland (author of the novel The Beach, the TV series Devs and the films Annihilation and Ex Machina) works with elements of folktales and biblical parables. Its protagonist is a young widow who, after her husband’s suicide, tries to find balance on a picturesque but remote estate. However, someone or something is always watching her.
