Mucha – The Story of an Artist Who Created a Style

Roman Vávra

The film presents the fate of one of the most famous Czech painters. The story of Alfons Mucha is told by his son Jiří, who, writing his fathers’s biography, comes to terms with his legacy and the question of why his father, at the height of his fame, left Paris, his wealth and his artistic milieu and tried to return to the Czech Republic. Jiří Mucha moves through the spaces of an ancient apartment that is filled with references to Alfons Mucha. We also perceive a narrative of his own life and times. On top of all this lies the shadow of his father’s fame and the heaviness of the communist regime.
