The most anticipated Slovak film of this year The Auschwitz Report to be screened at IFF Cinematik in the Slovak premiere

29. July 2021

Peter Bebjak is one of the most successful and most active Slovak filmmakers today. He also succeeded last year when he completed his last feature film, The Auschwitz Report (Správa, 2020). The historical drama goes back to the events of April 7, 1944, when Alfred Wetzler and Rudolf Vrba managed to do something incredible – escape from the Auschwitz death camp and report to the world the chilling news of the genocide that was taking place behind the walls of the concentration camps across Europe. This courageous act did not go unnoticed. Their report reached Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt and eventually played a profound role in the development of World War II.

Bebjak filmed a real story full of emotions and tension in a Slovak-Czech-Polish-German co-production and also made it to the Slovak Oscar nomination for the best foreign-language film. The film was originally supposed to have its premiere on January 27, 2021, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, but the event was cancelled due to the pandemic. Visitors to the Cinematik festival will be able to see it ahead of its distribution date. However, The Auschwitz Report will not be the only domestic title that will be brought on the big screen by Cinematik in September.
