Inspiring experiences with friends, unique festival atmosphere: Cinematik starts in less than two months

This year, the Cinematik International Film Festival will open its doors to fans of
quality film for the seventeenth time. The six-day film marathon in Piešťany starts on
September 13, and its visitors can look forward to almost a hundred exceptional film
titles. Cinematik will confirm its position of the largest Slovak film event with two
prestigious film competitions, numerous premieres and a varied lineup of Slovak and
foreign guests.
Unforgetable moments with friends, inspiring experiences, a unique festival
atmosphere, but above all, a rich selection of great film titles, among which everyone
will find their favorites. There are more than enough reasons not to miss Cinematik
this year. What can you look forward to in its programme?
During its 17th year, for example, Cinematik will also focus on extraordinary French
cinematography. It will also provide a retrospective of the French-Bosnian filmmaker,
screenwriter and producer Lucile Hadžihalilović. Not one of her films has yet been
seen by Slovak viewers in the conceptual profile section.
The unique Cult & Beyond night section also promises extraordinary experiences.
This time, the central theme of the section titles is family: Sometimes dysfunctional,
bizarre, crooked, but nevertheless always extremely important.
Several exclusive Slovak premieres are traditionally held in the sections Paths of
Glory and the Artistic Director’s Selection. Many of the films have already won
awards from the prestigious Sundance, San Sebastián, Locarno, Berlinale, Cannes
and Venice festivals, and they often do not reach classical distribution in our cinemas
until months after their release at Cinematik, or they do not make it to our cinemas at
all.
This year, nearly twenty important new films also made it into the Meeting Point
Europe and Cinematik.doc competition categories. There will be high-quality feature
films and documentaries made by European and domestic filmmakers. Again, there
will be several exclusive festival pre-premieres among them.
IFF Cinematik will gradually reveal more details from its program in the upcoming
weeks.
