Kneecap

Rich Peppiatt

The unique, audacious comedy Kneecap tells the true story of the emergence of the Northern Irish hip-hop group Kneecap, which proudly promotes the Irish language. Set in Belfast in 2019, it follows the lives of disillusioned music teacher JJ and two young men, Naoise and Liam Óg. Together, they form a band that transforms the Irish music scene with their anarchistic and hedonistic style. To make their voices heard, they must battle against the police, paramilitary groups, and politicians, but their biggest enemies are often themselves. “Anytime an Irish word is spoken, it’s like firing a bullet for Irish freedom,” is the slogan of the unstoppable trio. The film’s wild and vibrant storytelling represents a Trainspotting for a new generation.
