The Commune

Jakub Julény

A desire for freedom during the period of “normalization” in Czechoslovakia lay behind the creation of a free association of young people from Košice, abiding by the principles of the underground. They became outsiders by choice, with the aim of living freely on the fringes of society and becoming creators of their own destiny. Nowadays, they live in the past, each suspecting the other of betrayal. The memory of their tragically deceased guru, philosopher and poet Marcel Strýko still hovers over their story. In order to deal with the past, their friend Mirek Vodrážka from Prague organises the revival of an old concert in the St Elisabeth Cathedral. Will the former friends reconcile when they meet?
