Icons / Ferdinand Milučký

Dorota Vlnová

Icons is a documentary series about the oldest living generation of Slovak architects—about the generation which reached the peak of its art during socialism and, today, it often doesn’t receive its deserved recognition. The film is not merely a portrait of architects. It raises the question of the perception of Slovak architecture, our identification with the city we live in as well as with the buildings that it consists of, the dignity with which they are used, not depriving them of their uniqueness. Ferdinand Milučký was one of the most important Slovak architects of modernism. His works can be characterized by geometric abstraction, a close link to fine arts and precise details. The Bratislava Crematorium and the House of Arts in Piešťany are among his masterpieces.
