The Lust for Power

Tereza Nvotová

When the totalitarian communist regime in Czecho-Slovakia fell in 1989, director Tereza Nvotová was 1 year old. The leaders of the Velvet Revolution decided to organize a contest for a minister of interior. One of the applicants was Vladimír Mečiar, at that time unknown corporate lawyer from the Slovak countryside. After winning the contest, Vladimír Mečiar reaches the very top of the Slovak politics from where he rules the country using debatable practices. On the background of events like the dissolution of Czecho-Slovakia or the abduction of the son of the president of the Slovak Republic, Tereza and her peers enjoy their childhood years.
