DOX IN VITRO – International Seminar & Workshop

Dox in Vitro is aimed at young producers and documentary filmmakers who will be introduced to the „real world“ of the European film market and documentary films. The workshop will focus on the development of documentaries under the guidance of experienced tutors and emphasize the role and need of co-productions in today’s
documentary sector.

SEMINAR ( September 10, 2018)

This one-day seminar will focus on making documentaries for the regional and international market. Through presentations by leading international experts and case studies on recent internationally successful documentaries this day will spotlight essential considerations for telling stories that can travel. This includes both the creative approaches for telling documentaries and considerations around the European documentary market.

WORKSHOP (September 11, 2018)

The workshop is your opportunity to develop your documentary project under guidance from leading international documentary experts. You will receive input and feedback on essential consideration for the further development including the narrative structures, visual style and potential financing opportunities. This is done by working in a small group under creative guidance from international professionals.

Selected applicants with projects will have an opportunity to consult the project with renowned international tutors:

  • Boris Mitic, documentary filmmaker, Srbsko
  • Ondrej Starinský, head of documentary and educational department at Radio and Television of Slovakia

EDN Film & Media Consultant European Documentary Network, Denmark

Ove has been with EDN since winter 2003 and runs various documentary screenings, workshops, seminars, master classes and also participates in the selection of projects for workshops and pitching sessions. Ove has programmed and/or produced a number of events like The Greek Documentary Lab, New Platforms – New Politics, Twelve for the Future and lately also EDN’s market activities at European Film Market, Sunny Side of the Doc and MIPDOC. In addition he has collaborated with a number of documentary organisations and festivals with tailor making master classes, seminars and workshops for special events and occasions.

Consultant, distributor, sales agent

Peter started as a film journalist and then became Sales & Marketing Director for a Filmagazine. As Marketing & Acquisitions Director for Benelux theatrical distributors, he handled over 100 films like Mulholland Drive, The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. In 2004 Peter moved to Vienna and founded Autlook Filmsales GmbH, becoming CEO till 2014. Today he is a silent partner of Autlook, a jury member of the Flemish Film Fund & Vienna Film Fund, a distribution & marketing tutor/lecturer and is also creating a new initiative: Jaeger Creative.

Documentary filmmaker

Boris lived on a few continents, worked for a few years for the most prestigious global media outlets, understood a few things and dedicated the rest of his life to creative parenting, creative football and creative documentaries: a Gypsy Mad Max recycling saga, a claustrophobic tragicomedy of the absurd, a satirical documentary fairy tale, a feelgood parable about Nothing. 4 films, 200+ festivals, 20 awards, 20 broadcasters, global lecturing track record.

PD-StarinskyONDREJ STARINSKÝ

Head of documentary and educational department at Radio and Television of Slovakia

He studied Film Theory at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (graduated in 2005). Since then he worked in PR, production, programming for several Slovak film festivals (IFF Bratislava, Art Film Fest Košice, Mffk Febiofest, 4 elements film seminar in Banská Štiavnica). Starinsky also worked for the Open Society Foundation (NOS – OSF), where he organized the country-wide “Journalism Award. Since October 2016 he is the head of documentary and educational department at Radio and Television of Slovakia.

  • synopsis & treatment
  • estimated budget
  • production plan and estimated time of delivery
  • short introduction or CV of the involved partners; director, producer, company

Visual material can be submitted electronically by including a link to previous work/pilot/trailer.
