Cinematik presents Slovak premiers of films from Cannes and Sundance

17. August 2018

Year after year Cinematik introduces Kinema choice section which contains six dramas you can already by thrilled about. There’s just one of them we want to keep in secret as a surprise.

The Danish-Swedish film The Border (Gräns) is a typical nordic mytological story. We are intorudced to a withdrawn customs officer Tina who’s sense of smell is outstadingly developed. She creates a special bond with a witness she’s investigating. This film belongs to one of the most discussed stories of this year’s Festival de Cannes. Director of this picture is half Iranian half Swedish Ali Abbasi (Shelley, 2016).

Cinematik will introduce also another piece of news from Danish director Lars von Trier. The main protagonist of The House That Jack Built is a serial killer Jack (Matt Dillon). The story’s center of attration is Jack’s past and the main focus lies on his evolution as a serial killer. During its screening at Festival de Cannes the film was struck by many different reactions.  The movie filled the room with indignation for the violence it depicted and therefore, sternly divided critics into two groups – those who loved it and those who hated it.

The newest two-time Oscar winner in Foreign Language Film category shot by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi will close this year’s IFF Cinematik.  A Franco-Spanish mystifying drama Everybody knows (Todos lo saben) focuses on Laura who came back to her birthplace, not far from Madrid. Laura comes to her sister’s wedding which seems to uncover secretes from the past. A starry cast (Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darín) has opened this year’s 71. Festival de Cannes.

Kinema choice will also bring us The Miseducation of Cameron Post. We will be told a story of one teenager that has been sent to a camp by her parents with the goal of miseducation. This christian camp’s mission is to heal attendants from homosexuality. This engaging picture of director, scriptwriter, and actress Desiree Akhvan had its premiere at Sundance festival.

One of this film section peaks will be a Belgian drama Girl as a debut of a director and scriptwriter – Lukas Dhonta. He created a story of a little girl who’s been born into a wrong body and dreams of becoming a ballerina. You will be enchanted by Victor Polster’s superb acting and intense story of acceptation, understanding, and his courage to fight.
