17. August 2014

In recent years we have been witnessing the Golden Age of TV with many successful series that “feel like films”. That’s why Cinematik partners with HBO so the festivalgoers will have the opportunity to see some works by this pioneer TV network including the most recent film The Normal Heart nominated for 11 Primetime Emmys.

The Normal Heart is set in 1980s New York – the time when HIV crisis is just breaking out. LGBT activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial. The film which stars Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons, or Julia Roberts has been already voted the Best Movie by TV critics.

Cinematik will screen another award-winning mini-series, Todd Haynes directed Mildred Pierce starring Kate Winslet. 5-part adaptation of James M. Cain novel is set in times of Great Depression. The main character, just divorced middle class woman is trying to find happiness for her two children and herself. She manages to open her own restaurant, but at the same time the conflicts with her older and ambitious daughter are escalating.
