The Edge and The Great Beauty win at Cinematik

The main prizes of the Cinematik IFF went to Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty for the best European film of the year and Patrik Lančarič’s The Edge – 4 Films About Marek Brezovský as the best Slovak documentary.

The Great Beauty, a film about an aging writer and high-life of Rome, was awarded Meeting Point Europe Award as voted by Panel of European film critics.

Cinematik.doc Award and a 500€ Literary Fund grant went to The Edge – 4 Films about Marek Brezovský, a portrait of a talented musician who died of heroin overdose at the age of 20.

Award of the Mayor of the Town of Piešťany went to Slovak documentary Comeback by Miro Remo which follows two recidivists in the course of five years – their life behind the bars and outside of jail.

John Michael McDonagh’s Calvary, a film about a priest who is going to be killed in a week, got the Audience Award.

The Award-giving ceremony was followed by a world premiere of the film Children, a fiction film debut by a celebrated documentary filmmaker Jaro Vojtek.
